Square Appointments exists inside a much bigger product: Square's point-of-sale and payments platform. That's exactly right for a salon or barbershop taking payment at the chair: appointments, inventory, and card processing all live in one system, and the free tier is genuinely usable for a single location.

That same design is overkill if you never take an in-person card payment. A consultant booking video calls doesn't need retail inventory tools or a card reader, and Square's per-transaction processing fees are a cost with no equivalent value if there's no transaction happening at the appointment itself.

Schedulera is built around the appointment, not the register: session types, calendar sync, reminders, and video links, without a payment system to configure. For remote, consultation-style work, that's a lighter setup with nothing unused sitting in the product. For in-person, payment-at-time-of-service businesses, Square's integration between booking and checkout is worth keeping.
