Most tattoo bookings still start in Instagram DMs. Someone sends a Pinterest screenshot at midnight, you reply between clients, they ask about price, you ask about placement, and three days later you're still trying to find a Saturday that works. Meanwhile the chair sits empty because the person who said 'yes, book me' never confirmed.
The aim is more of your week at the chair and less of it in your DMs.
A booking page doesn't replace your judgment about which pieces to take. It replaces the back-and-forth around it. Here's a setup that works for most solo artists and small studios.
Split your work into four session types
The mistake is one generic 'Book a tattoo' button. Different kinds of work need different lengths, prices, and rules, so give each its own session type:
| Session type | Length | Price | Why it exists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Design consult | 20 min, video | Free | Screen the idea, talk placement and size, and quote before anything big lands on your calendar |
| Flash piece | 60 min, studio | Fixed price | Small, ready-to-go designs that fill the gaps between big days |
| Half-day session | 3 hours, studio | Paid at booking | Medium custom work. Payment holds the chair |
| Full-day session | 6 hours, studio | Paid at booking | Sleeves and large pieces, where a no-show costs you a whole day |
Add a free touch-up session if you offer them, with a note like 'for pieces I did in the last 6 months'. You can see this exact setup on our tattoo artist demo page.
Make the consult do the screening
The consult is where you decide whether a piece is right for you, so ask for what you need before the call. Intake questions on the consult can require placement, approximate size, and a description of the idea, and ask for a link to reference images on Pinterest, Instagram, or Google Drive. We cover exactly which questions to ask in our tattoo consultation form guide.
If you only take on work you've approved, turn on booking approval for the consult. Requests arrive as pending, and nothing goes on your calendar until you accept.
Protect big days with payment at booking
A full-day no-show is the most expensive thing that can happen to an artist. Put a price on half-day and full-day sessions and clients pay by card through your own Stripe account when they book. Schedulera doesn't take a cut of those payments; Stripe's standard processing fees apply.
Two honest details. First, Schedulera charges the price you set on the session type at booking. There's no separate deposit setting today, so if you work on deposits, many artists set the session price to the deposit and take the balance in the studio. Say that in the description so nobody is surprised. Second, when a client cancels through their own booking link, a card payment is refunded in full automatically. A minimum notice and a clear cancellation policy, covered in our cancellation policy templates, keep that from becoming a loophole.
Fill the gaps with flash
Short flash slots soak up the hours around big pieces. Keep them at a fixed price so there's nothing to quote, and use a daily limit so a busy flash day doesn't leave you too tired for tomorrow's sleeve.
Put the link where people already find you
Your booking link belongs in your Instagram bio, your link-in-bio page, and your Google Business Profile. For walk-in traffic, put a QR code on the studio window or front desk so people can book while they're standing there. Pinned replies in DMs help too: 'Thanks for reaching out. Book a free consult here and I'll quote it on the call.'
What changes for you
- •Ideas come in with placement and size already answered, so consults are about the design, not logistics.
- •Big sessions are paid before the day, so a no-show doesn't wipe out a whole day.
- •Clients reschedule from their confirmation email instead of messaging you at 1am.
- •Every booking lands on your Google or Outlook calendar, so you can't double-book the chair.
Create your free booking page and set up your consult first. It's the session that saves you the most messages.
Frequently asked questions
Can clients upload reference images when they book?
Not as a file upload today. Add a short-answer question asking for a link to reference images on Pinterest, Instagram, or Google Drive, which most clients already have.
Does Schedulera support tattoo deposits?
Schedulera charges the price you set on a session type when the client books. There's no separate deposit setting, so many artists set the session price to their deposit and collect the balance in the studio.
Can I approve a request before it's booked?
Yes. Turn on approval for a session type and new requests stay pending until you accept them.
Do clients need an account to book?
No. They book with a name and email and manage the booking from the link in their confirmation.
